Favourite thing to do in my job: Talking to patients and playing a part in helping them get better by explaining how they can avoid medication and use medication safely.
I love my career!
I’m Thorrun, I live in the North West of England and i love my career. I’ve always wanted to be a pharmacist (or a Blue Peter Presenter). I studied at King’s College London and i very much enjoyed being a student in London. In my spare time i love going back to visit London and travelling. When i’m not at work i like swimming and going to the gym. Once a month i participate in a pharmacy radio phone in on BBC Radio Lancashire where i give out advice and chat to the public.
I’m a Pharmacist
Community pharmacy is very varied:
My day can involve:
giving healthcare advice about prescription and over-the-counter medicines
advising on drug dosages and risks
Screening for diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure
ordering and controlling stock
running a business, including supervising and training staff
My Typical Day
Very busy! Counselling patients, reviewing medication, helping other healthcare professionals.
Grab some breakfast, get to work, check prescriptions, dispense advice and that might include chatting with doctors to provide support on what to prescribe.
What I'd do with the prize money
Engaging with young people and visiting schools to promote the safe use of medicines and pharmacy as a public health service.
I’d like to spend the money to promote what pharmacists do and to encourage the public to use pharmacy first to decrease pressure on GP’s and A+E.
