Question: Hey Nicolas, What got you so into astronomy, and what made you pursue it?

Hi Peter, I think it started with the fact that I grew up in a small place in the country side where I could stare at the night sky and have a clear view (no light pollution from cities etc). The beauty of it just made me wonder what was out there.
But through my school and university years, I also have had great teachers who made me love sciences, and in particular maths and physics.
In the end, I chose solar physics as a career because I met some nice folks who were teaching me at university and were doing research in solar physics.

I always loved astronomy. If you ever find yourself in North Carolina or Virginia, make sure to go on the Blue Ridge Parkway during night. It is absolutely incredible. You can see the Milky way so clearly! It was one of the coolest things I have ever seen.

The good news is that you don’t have to travel that far to see a good dark sky at night, there are some very good spots in England and Wales, too. You can check it out at http://www.darkskydiscovery.org.uk/ where great sites are listed. They are good spots to potentially see the Milky Way.

I once saw them on a night flight I was on. It was a transatlantic flight and it was a dark flight for about 3/4ths of the time. It was so cool!
