Kidney disease (nephropathy) is caused by damage to small blood vessels. This can make the vessels leaky/stop working so the kidneys don’t work as well. Keeping blood glucose levels in check can reduce the risk of damage to the small blood vessels and other diabetes complications. Keeping blood pressure controlled is important too. Pharmacists often check patients blood glucose and we always ask about blood pressure and blood glucose for patients on diabetic medication.
