• Question: Hi Amy, I was hoping to ask on average how many cases of specific blood and blood marrow cancer type have you studied because it isn't very known and I find an interest in Biology?

      Hi AmberCorless,

I only started my research in the field of blood and bone marrow cancer in September but I am looking at 3 types of cancers. One is called Polycythaemia Vera and is cancer leading to an increased number of red blood cells (cells that carry oxygen to different parts of your body) in the circulatory system, the other is known as Essential Thrombocythaemia, which is an increase in platelets (the cells that help your blood clot if you cut yourself) and the third disease is where there is a build up of scar tissue within the bones and bone marrow which stops the marrow from producing healthy red and white blood cells and platelets. This disease is called Myelofibrosis.

These diseases aren’t very well researched because they are very rare cancers.

I’d hope to look at a lot more cancer types when I have finished this project, I’d particularly like to look at cases of acute myeloid leukaemia and chronic myeloid leukaemia.

I hope this answers your question, biology is very interesting and I’m happy you also feel the same way 🙂 Maybe you should consider taking biology at A level and further study 🙂
